Unit 1 Fiction and science

This unit mainly deals with the improvement of man through science. We will navigate
between fiction and reality by studying
very concrete experiences or technologies supposed to “repair” the human body or improve its capabilities. We’ll analyse documents that show how cinema or literature tackle this subject. The unit aims to reflect on ethical questions: What can be the consequences of an increase, or an uncontrolled modification, of the capacities of the human body?

Axis “Scientific innovations and responsibility”
Key question : Should humanity try to improve themselves at all cost?
Objective : Can give a clear, prepared presentation, stating reasons for or against a particular point of view, can present the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
Can handle a series of questions, after the presentation, with a degree of fluency and spontaneity.
Final task : Present an imaginary invention.
