Unit 5 Gateways to USA
The main goal of this unit is to enable students to reflect on both the settlement of the United States and the migratory movements that have formed a large part of American identity. The study of this topic will be done mainly through the discovery of two major sites, symbols of immigration to the United States: Ellis Island, an island located at the mouth of the Hudson River in New York, home of the various immigration waves from Europe, and Angel Island, island of San Francisco Bay, which received migrants from Asia.
Axis: Territory and Memory
Final task: For a naturalisation ceremony, write a poem expressing the happiness and/or hardships of the immigrants.
