This unit intends to explore the “walls” between the peoples. Whether physical or symbolic, real or fictitious, geographic or political, they mark a separation between peoples or groups which, at best, are not not understand. These walls protect, but also divide, lands and men. These walls can represent obstacles to reach one’s dreams and hopes. This is particularly the case with the border between the United States and Mexico. In this unit we may wonder : What are the different viewpoints ? Are borders always visible? In globalized society, what role do borders play? Notion : Identities and exchanges Keywords : controls / conflicts / slums / immigration / exiles / hospitality / culture clash / borders / solidarity / travel / obstacles / hope / dream Final task : Participate in a TED-talk and explain why people want to build borders.
